Migraine and Neck Tension Headaches
What is it and what causes it?
Some persistent migraines and headaches are a result of continuous muscle tension and spasm. This muscle overactivity can be a response to physical and mental stress, depression, trauma, or anxiety.
Injecting Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox) is commonly used to treat chronic migraine and tension headaches that have not been successfully managed with primary methods of treatment. A dilute solution of the toxin is thought to partially paralyse the muscles and pain-perceiving nerves, preventing further over-stimulation and consequently, a significant decrease in the frequency and severity of associated headaches.
